Our history

Celebrating Our Legacy: A Journey Through the Rich History of Alpha Eta Phi MS Sorority, Inc. and Its Impact on Community and Sisterhood."

Alpha Eta Phi Multiple Sclerosis Sorority, Inc. was founded on August 29, 2021, by Dr. Lekeia Conway, Angie Spence, Tiffany English, and Jessica M. Hawk four women living with Multiple Sclerosis who shared a vision of creating a sisterhood rooted in genuine support, advocacy, education, leadership, and lifelong friendship.

Prior to founding Alpha Eta Phi, each of the founders became members of an organization created for individuals living with chronic illnesses. While each founder's experience was unique, they collectively recognized an opportunity to create an organization that placed a greater emphasis on authentic sisterhood, servant leadership, organizational excellence, education, advocacy, transparency, and long-term support specifically for women living with Multiple Sclerosis. Shortly after their induction, each founder made the personal decision to leave for different reasons. Although their paths within that organization came to an end, their passion for serving women living with MS only grew stronger.

Rather than allowing disappointment to define their experience, the founders chose to build something extraordinary. They transformed their shared vision into Alpha Eta Phi Multiple Sclerosis Sorority, Inc. an organization dedicated exclusively to women living with Multiple Sclerosis, where every member would be welcomed with dignity, encouraged to lead with purpose, and supported throughout every stage of her MS journey.

Built upon the biblical foundation of Ecclesiastes 4:12, "Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken," Alpha Eta Phi believes that true strength is found in unity. Every woman who joins the organization becomes part of a sisterhood committed to ensuring that no woman living with Multiple Sclerosis walks her journey alone.

On April 21, 2022, Alpha Eta Phi Multiple Sclerosis Sorority, Inc. was officially incorporated in the State of Maryland, establishing the legal foundation for an organization committed to serving women living with Multiple Sclerosis for generations to come.

Since its inception, Alpha Eta Phi has remained steadfast in its mission while continuing to grow across communities and state lines. Through educational initiatives, advocacy campaigns, community service projects, wellness programming, and meaningful fellowship, members work collectively to raise awareness of Multiple Sclerosis while empowering women to live beyond their diagnosis.  The organization proudly operates under five guiding pillars:

  • Connections

  • Support

  • Advocacy

  • Friendship

  • Fellowship

These pillars serve as the foundation for every program, initiative, and interaction, ensuring that each member experiences authentic sisterhood rooted in compassion, service, integrity, and purpose.

Alpha Eta Phi is committed to developing women of integrity, leadership, elegance, and service. The sorority maintains a strict anti-hazing policy and provides an educational membership experience that emphasizes leadership development, personal growth, community involvement, and lifelong learning. Members actively participate in Multiple Sclerosis education initiatives, volunteer service projects, advocacy efforts, and outreach activities designed to create meaningful change in the communities they serve.

Since its founding, Alpha Eta Phi has proudly completed five successful membership inductions, welcoming exceptional women into the sisterhood who are committed to advancing the organization's mission. Each induction class has strengthened the foundation of Alpha Eta Phi, expanded its reach, and carried forward the vision established by its founders. Together, these women represent a growing legacy of resilience, service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to supporting those living with Multiple Sclerosis.

Today, Alpha Eta Phi Multiple Sclerosis Sorority, Inc. stands as more than a sorority—it is a movement of women who refuse to allow Multiple Sclerosis to define their lives. Through advocacy, education, service, mentorship, and genuine sisterhood, Alpha Eta Phi continues to inspire hope while creating opportunities for women with MS to lead, serve, and thrive.

As the organization looks toward the future, it remains dedicated to expanding its impact, cultivating strong leaders, increasing awareness of Multiple Sclerosis, and leaving a legacy that will endure for generations. Every new member, every act of service, and every life touched reflects the founders' unwavering belief that women living with Multiple Sclerosis deserve a place where they are seen, valued, empowered, and never alone.

Alpha Eta Phi is more than an organization it is a sisterhood built on faith, resilience, purpose, and love.
